Rare Russian River at the Daily Pint

Friday 2/6 at The Daily Pint:
Pliny the Younger & Consecration on tap.
According to the Russian River website, Consecration is a dark Belgian style ale aged with currants in oak Cabernet barrels. It’s a Wild ale that uses strains of Brettanomyces, Lactobacillus, and Pediococcus, so you can expect something tart along the lines of Supplication or Temptation.
Used to be the only place in town to get a pint of Pliny was at Father’s Office. Sang and Vinnie are old wine buddies, and before Russian River had distribution in Southern California, FO was the only place that Vinnie would send it to.
Now that Pliny the Elder is widely regarded as one of the best IPAs in the country, Russian River has expanded their facilities and added a bottling line. With Stone Brewing handling their Southern California distribution, Blind Pig and Pliny the Elder are exploding in popularity.
Pliny the Elder is the West Coast answer to Dogfish Head’s 90 Minute IPA. It’s the beer that humbles Sam Calagione and The Pain Relievas’ East Coast braggadocio. In the MC battle of hoppy beer brewing, did he really think he could trash talk West Coast IPAs without getting his ass handed to him by California?
The jury’s still out on that one.
It’s cool Sam, just keep on bitch slapping that mic. We’ll stay focused on bitch slapping the East Coast’s notion of what “hoppy” means.
Judge for yourself tomorrow at 6pm when Pliny the Younger drops on the Westside. Who knows, the Pint may even have a few bottles of 90 Minute lying around for comparison.
Excuse me while I go add 8 Mile to my Netflix queue.
