Which Stone Beers are your Favorites?

    ballots
In light of our upcoming Stone and Let’s Be Frank beer dinner at Verdugo Bar this Wednesday, we thought we’d run a little survey to see what everyone’s favorite Stone beers are.

You can vote for multiple beers, but please, don’t vote more than once!

Beer and Hot Dog Dinner x 2!

Let's Be Frank / Stone Brewing DinnerYa han comido tacos con cerveza, and you’ve already slurped down your fair share of real beer floats.

Now it’s time to test out a new pairing – Hot Dogs & Beer.

Starting next week, you’ll have two opportunities to match up Let’s Be Frank hot dogs with some of San Diego’s finest.

Stone Brewing is a great match for this beer dinner with Let’s Be Frank, both companies are well known for their commitment to higher quality products and supporting local producers.

Let’s Be Frank @ The Daily Pint

On Wednesday, September 9th, the Weinermobile (well, it’s actually more of a trailer) will be parked in front of the Daily Pint (twitter, facebook) from 7pm on.  Let’s Be Frank will be using Stone beers in the preparation of their food, and each dog will have a corresponding beer pairing on tap at the Pint.  Exact menu will be released closer to the date.

Let’s Be Frank @ Verdugo Bar

For all you folks on the eastside of town, if you can’t make it out to the Pint, the Let’s Be Frank trailer will be making it’s way to Verdugo Bar (facebook, twitter) the following Wednesday, September 16th.

More information to come, but for now you can check out the Beer Geek LA event pages on Facebook:

This Sunday: BottleRock / Golden State LA Beer Float Showdown at Blue Palms

    beer-float-showdown

Blue Palms is the place to be this Sunday for the LA Beer Float Showdown.

From Beer Geek Josh Lurie at Food GPS:

The Golden State caused a sensation when co-owners Jason Bernstein and James Starr started serving beer floats on Fairfax. They combined Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout with Scoops ice cream. BottleRock LA recently entered the float fray when resident beer expert Alex Macy decided to mix-and-match Milk ice cream with beers from their 18 taps. One of his signature floats: Ommegang Rouge with cherry sorbet.

On July 26 at 3:30 PM, come to Blue Palms Brewhouse and help to choose a champion in the first L.A. Beer Float Showdown. Everybody who attends is allowed to vote on two beer floats from each competitor. Four total. 8 ounces each. A score sheet will allow every attendee to judge the beer floats according to flavor, originality and presentation. The competitors are currently working on their flavor combinations and won’t reveal them until the showdown.

Tickets cost $23 if you RSVP to joshua@foodgps.com by July 25. Day-of admission is $28, but spaces are going fast. In both cases, people pay in cash at the door. 21+ only.

Proceeds cover the cost of the beer and ice cream, but the bulk of the money goes to charity. The L.A. Beer Float Showdown benefits 826LA, the non-profit writing and tutoring program for kids 6-18, founded by author Dave Eggers and educator Nínive Calegari.

More equally excellent recent beer reporting from FoodGPS:

The Bender with Eagle Rock Brewery owner Jeremy Raub
Jeremy Raub and father Steve hope to open Eagle Rock Brewery (in Glassell Park) by mid-September. While Jeremy still has spare time, it seemed like a good idea to take him on a tour of San Gabriel Valley beer bars to get his impressions on particular beers and the bars themselves. http://www.foodgps.com/eagle-rock-brewery-preview/

Luna Park owner AJ Gilbert and wife Martha Madison opened Henry’s Hat on July 9 in the former home of Minibar. Luna Park San Francisco Executive Chef Nick Cobarruvias developed a beer-friendly menu. Alan Pehrson consulted on the beer list. CLICK HERE TO SEE PEHRSON’S SUGGESTED PAIRINGS

AKASHA Chef Akasha Richmond is hosting a five-course Unibroue dinner on July 28. She’ll pair the Quebec brewery’s beer with each dish and explain the motivation behind each pairing. CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION, AND TO SEE THE MENU

Tacos and Beer in La Mirada This Weekend

    cabo-taco-baja-grill

Sure, you’ve been to beer tastings, beer and cheese pairings, beer dinners, and maybe even a beer and chocolate pairing by now, but when was the last time you went to a beer and taco pairing?  The combination of beer and tacos is an obvious one, but amazingly, this is the first time we’ve ever heard of such an event.  If we lived in La Mirada, there is absolutely no way we would miss this event!

    From owner Kenny Yowell:

We had our first beer dinner in February and it was a huge success. It sold out a week before the event.  So we will continue to do them every four months with possible special tastings in between. I’ve been a beer geek and home brewer for about 10 years now and have seen this industry change dramatically.  The little guys are starting to make a bit more money and have a bit more leverage when it comes to distribution. Now that I own my own restaurant I am able to incorporate my knowledge of beer into my business plan.  This Beer Dinner in June will defiantly be worth attending. Hope to see you here.

The event is going on this Saturday, June 20, 2009 from 6 p.m. – 11 p.m.  Thirty-five dollars gets you all you can eat tacos, 8 drink tickets, and logo glass, with each additional 6 oz. drink ticket costing $2.

    Taco Menu:

    • Gorgonzola Steak Taco- Grilled steak drizzled with garlic butter, topped with gorgonzola cheese, and fried onion strings.
    • Asian Pulled Pork Taco- Tender roast pork infused with a ginger sesame marinade, topped with Napa cabbage, julienned carrots, crispy won ton, and a light sprinkling of sesame seeds. Rolled in a bibb lettuce leaf.
    • Roast Chipotle Duck Taco- The duck is first coated with a chipotle dry rub. We then roast the meat until it falls off the bone. When the duck is tender and juicy we toss it in a dressing made from the ducks roasting juices and top it with a tangy citrus slaw.
    • Ensenada Fish Taco- Our seasoned beer battered tacos is made with a tilapia filet we beer batter and fry. We top it with mixed green and red cabbage, pico de gallo, and chipotle cream sauce.
    • Baja Shrimp Taco- Our Baja shrimp taco is made with tender grilled shrimp, sweet peppers, and bacon. We toss them all together with a sweet chilé glaze and top with cheese.
    • Chile Colorado Taco-We slow cook our beef in a Guajio chile sauce until it is tender. Then it is topped with fresh cilantro and garnished with a wedge of lime.
    • Jamaican Jerk Chicken Taco- We take a whole chicken and marinate it in a delightful blend of Jamaican style herbs and spices. Then grill it over an open flame, pull it off the bone and topped with mango salsa.
    • Crispy Ceviche Taco- We combine lump crab meat, shrimp, and tilapia filets. We use fresh lime juice to traditionally cook the seafood. When its finished we add fresh tomato, cucumber, cilantro, and red onion. The taco is served in a crispy taco shell with a splash of guava juice.

Hit the jump for the Beer…
